Wedding Ceremonies Within the Guildhall, several of the rooms particularly lend themselves to wedding celebrations. Whether you choose to spend all or just part of your special day with us, you will enjoy the opulent surroundings of Portsmouth’s premier venue. For those photographs providing a lasting memory, make sure all your guests are seen on the vast Guildhall steps with the lions, and that the latest event in the history of Portsmouth is captured in the Star Chamber with your wedding, HMS Victory, the Mary Rose and the Guildhall Tower all in one shot!



The central location is one of the greatest benefits with churches, hotels and transport all on the doorstep so that everybody can join in with one of the best days of your life.

The Entrance The grand ceremonial steps and the one ton first floor bronze doors, until recently only used by royalty, can be made available to provide the grandest of entrances, never to be upstaged.


The Wedding Ceremony You may wish to take your vows within the Guildhall. Two of our rooms, The Members Room and the Small Concert Hall are licensed for civic wedding ceremonies. The Members Room on the first floor is suitable for up to 120 guests whilst the Small Concert Hall on the Ground Floor is suitable for 200 guests.

The legalities of the marriage are arranged and conducted by the Registry Office. You should check with the registrars' that they are available to perform the ceremony on your chosen day and time before making a reservation with us at the Guildhall.

Registrars fees normally amount to approximately £378.00 in addition to our room hire charge. To personalise your ceremony you may also wish to arrange your own music, decorations or floral arrangements.

Wedding Receptions We have six rooms of varying sizes to accommodate your preferences. The Main Hall of the Guildhall provides our largest single area for a table laid banquet of up to 500 guests, whilst the Harlequin Restaurant, Small Concert Hall, Members Room and South Reception Areas are suitable for parties of 50-100 guests.

We cater daily for over 500 persons across a broad spectrum of requirements, from royal state banquets to daily staff restaurants. Consequently, our staff can utilise their full range of professional skills and knowledge to create, if required, a bespoke service for you.

To help you make up your mind, with such an infinite range of food and drink available, we list some of our most popular menus and drinks in packages enabling you to budget just exactly how much you can afford to spend.
In each list is a description of how the food is served. We like to inform you of this at planning stage as it helps you gauge how relaxed or formal you want your wedding to be.

We are always pleased to cater for specific dietary needs and vegetarians – these requirements need to be arranged with us in advance. (It is important that guests with special diets inform the staff serving at the table what they have ordered and check that the ingredients in the food offered are as arranged).

Children under 12years of age can either choose from the Children’s menu or have a fixed meal at half price.

Children under the age of 18 should not be included in an alcoholic drinks package.

As we do not operate a "corkage" system, all drinks should be purchased with us. The menu prices include, as part of a fully comprehensive wedding reception service;

A wedding host, who will be on hand to oversee, act as a toastmaster and conduct events as you require

A circular or square cake stand and knife

Evening Party Reception
You may continue your celebrations with an evening party. We can arrange a band or disco or you may supply your own. No room hire charge is payable should you purchase a buffet for your guests from our standard list.
